It Sure Sounds Like Van Halen is ‘Finished,’ According to David Lee Roth

Fans holding out hope for further activity or live performances from Van Halen may have had those wishes dashed this week, at least according to someone with a unique point of view … vocalist David Lee Roth.
DLR, who recently announced his own residency at the House of Blues in Las Vegas in early 2020, was speaking about the concerts on the Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown podcast from Detroit radio station WRIF. The episode premiered this week, and in it, Roth says some things that definitely sound cut-and-dry regarding the (not-good) chances of Van Halen doing much together in the future.
When the topic of Van Halen’s purported stadium tour that was potentially suggested for this past summer, Roth says, “That’s been canceled a number of times,” adding, “And I think Van Halen’s finished,” citing his solo Vegas residency as the next phase of the iconic rock band, which last toured together in 2015.
Roth also added, “Van Halen isn’t gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know. And that being said, Eddie’s got his own story to tell. [It’s} not mine to tell it.”

Of course, in this business you never know what to make of anything when it comes to band members declaring things are “finished” and have no chance of further activity — but in this case, it definitely seems like David Lee Roth is moving on.
As for what he means by Eddie Van Halen having “his own story to tell,” that remains open to interpretation.
