On Oct. 16, a long-anticipated release from the Tom Petty vaults will finally be unleashed when Wildflowers & All the Rest is released by the Petty estate. The expanded version of Petty‘s acclaimed 1994 album has been previewed in recent weeks, leading up to the official release later this month.

The latest is “Leave Virginia Alone,” a song Petty wrote in early 1993, early in the process that resulted in 1994’s Wildflowers album. On Thursday, the estate of Tom Petty shared a new music video for the track, directed by Mark Seliger and Adria Petty, Tom’s daughter. Watch it below:

Per a news release, Adria Petty and Mark Seliger explained the concept of the “Leave Virginia Alone” video in a SiriusXM chat with David Fricke earlier this week:

“We were very resourceful about trying to create a character that could be assigned to anyone. That’s why Virginia in this video is very mysterious but she has her little glimpses of characters. We really worked to cast someone authentic—that felt like they were really feeling their feelings and someone that you could believe. We really wanted the song to do the heavy lifting in this video, and sort of step out of the way and just give it something to breathe with.” Seliger furthers, “The one idea that kept coming back to both of us is that we really want Tom to be narrating the story. We really want to hear his voice as he runs you through this journey that this woman is having.

“Leave Virginia Alone” joins the other tracks shared recently as previews of Wildflowers & All the Rest. Here’s “Confusion Wheel”:

As well as a home recording of “You Don’t Know How It Feels”:

The story of Wildflowers is one promising a wealth of unheard material. The original album sessions with Tom Petty and co-producers Rick Rubin and Mike Campbell yielded a double-CD with 25 songs, but “his label advised restraint,” per a press release. Years later, Petty mentioned ongoing plans for a Wildflowers revisit, and now it’s finally here.

More:

Tom’s vision of the project is becoming a reality due to the commitment of his loving family, bandmates and collaborators who helped unearth many previously unheard gems. The compilation was curated by Tom’s daughters, Adria and Annakim Petty and his wife Dana Petty who call it, “Many, many hours of pure sonic joy,” as well as Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and was produced by Tom’s longtime engineer and co-producer Ryan Ulyate. Together they stewarded the warmth Tom created through his music and relationship to his fans.
