Todd Rundgren’s Utopia: ‘Live at the Chicago Theatre’ Blu-ray/DVD/2-CD Set Coming in April to Commemorate Reunion Tour

0

When Todd Rundgren reconvened with the members of Utopia for a big tour in 2018, it came at heightened anticipation for Rundgren fans the world over. They’d been clamoring for this for years, and it finally happened — and on April 5, it’ll be commemorated with a special live album release.

Todd Rundgren’s Utopia Live at the Chicago Theatre will be released as a Blu-ray/DVD/2-CD set, creating a memento for Rundgren and Utopia fans that had been waiting more than 32 years to see the group back onstage together. A vinyl edition will be available on April 19.

From the press release:

After a thirty-year-plus hiatus, Todd Rundgren’s Utopia graced the Chicago Theatre stage, with the hopes of promising fans an extraordinary, other-worldly concert experience. The original 70’s-formed band established a stellar reputation for stretching the prog rock/pop envelope and infusing their mostly original material with verve and state-of-the-art technique. On this occasion the band featured Todd Rundgren, Kasim Sulton, Willie Wilcox and Gil Assayas.

Here’s the set’s track listing:

2. “The Ikon”

If you missed it, please enjoy our exclusive RockCellarTV interview with each member of Utopia, carried out by Ken Sharp.

In the video interview, Sharp sits down with Rundgren, Sulton, Wilcox and Assayas for a look back on the tour, what went into it and much more. This serves as a bookend, of sorts, to Sharp’s pre-tour interview with the band.

Rundgren has some live appearances coming up in support of his new memoir, The Individualist, which he also spoke with Sharp for in a recent feature interview — click here to read that, and peruse his schedule below.
