Here’s ‘The Covid Kid,’ a Coronavirus Song in the Style of Steely Dan — from Steve Porcaro, David Kamp, Marc Bonilla, Billy Sherwood and More, for MusiCares

There’s a time and place for levity among the harsh realities of a global pandemic, and it inspired particularly entertaining bit of music from Steve Porcaro of Toto (among many other acts) and writer/lyricist David Kamp in the form of “The Covid Kid,” an homage to Steely Dan.
This timely project stemmed from the stark reality that there was not a pre-existing Steely Dan song with the title “The Covid Kid.”
There should’ve been a Steely Dan song called “The Covid Kid,” but there isn’t. So Steve Porcaro of @Toto99com and I wrote a Dan homage to benefit @MusiCares’s COVID-19 Relief Fund. Have a listen and DONATE! Also: Stay in. Don’t be like the Covid Kid.https://t.co/Pwadt5iHJ3

The song premiered last week. Its corresponding music video was featured in Rock Cellar Productions’ All Together Now! LA fundraising online concert event on April 25, which has raised more than $110,000 so far for the City of Los Angeles in its efforts to combat COVID-19.
Porcaro and Kamp premiered the song in an effort to raise additional funds for MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund, which you are encouraged to do if you enjoy the track, along with this brief note:
The Fabriani Bros. = Steve Porcaro & David Kamp + friends, in homage to Messrs. Fagen and Becker. Don’t be like the Covid Kid: Stay home, stay safe, and donate to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund for musicians whose livelihood has been affected by the pandemic: https://www.grammy.com/musicares/get-…

Special thanks to Steve Porcaro, David Kamp, Marc Bonilla and Denny Dias (who played guitar on the song), Billy Sherwood of Yes (on lead vocals), Shannon Forrest on drums and everybody else who participated in making “The Covid Kid” a reality, and for contributing it to our fundraising efforts for the city of Los Angeles.
