On Sunday night, Egerton was recognized for his strong performance, taking home the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. In doing so, the 30-year-old bested Hollywood icons Leondaro DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Daniel Craig (Knives Out) and Eddie Murphy (I Am Dolemite).
Egerton’s social media reaction to his big win was great:
This is obviously fantastic news for Egerton, and could indicate more success for Rocketman at the Academy Awards coming up in February.
Last year, Rami Malek took home the Actor in a Leading Role Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, so it’s a good time to be the star in a big-budget music biopic.
If you have yet to see Rocketman, let this be another bit of encouragement. As Rock Cellar’s Ed Rampell wrote in his review of the film:
Nevertheless, Rocketman enthusiastically gets this critic’s seal of approval. It’s a must-see for Elton John fans and with its ingenious fantasy sequences and riveting story, a great ride for general audiences. The music alone makes this biopic about one of the greatest rockers of all time worth seeing (and hearing).
