While we still don’t know who won the Nov. 3 Presidential Election (as results will take a few days, at least, to fully calculate), there’s no denying the importance of this year’s election. Stevie Wonder shared a poignant video message to that effect, and shared it officially on Wednesday.

Titled “The Universe Is Watching Us — What Happens Next …,”the clip features the legendary singer/songwriter delivering a brief musical introduction before speaking for five minutes, sharing his perspective on the state of things and the election:

The premiere of this clip comes after Wonder recently shared a pair of new songs, both of which are especially charged and culturally relevant for these tumultuous times.

“Can’t Put It in the Hands of Fate” features Rapsody, Cordae, Chika, and Busta Rhymes, while “Where is Our Love Song” is a collaboration with blues/rock guitarist/songwriter Gary Clark Jr. A news release credits the tracks as “songs that provide instruction and inspiration for today’s global challenges.”

The second song is “Where Is Our Love Song,” which features Gary Clark Jr. and asks an important question for these troubled times: “Where are our words with hope, prayer for peace, and our desperately needed song of love?”

Both songs were written and produced by Wonder, and all of the proceeds generated by “Where Is Our Love Song” will be donated to Feeding America, in its efforts to provide aid to those who desperately need it — whether due to the COVID-19 pandemic or otherwise.

Said Stevie Wonder in a statement about the songs, which he chose to premiere on the 36th birthday of his son, Mumtaz Morris:

“In these times, we are hearing the most poignant wake-up calls and cries for this nation and the world to, please, heed our need for love, peace and unity.”
