Dan Levy and Phoebe Bridgers, Stars of 2020 Quarantine Entertainment, to Host and Play ‘Saturday Night Live’ on 2/6 Respectively

On Friday, NBC announced the first three 2021 episodes of Saturday Night Live … and Feb. 6 is going to be a good one. The host of that week’s episode is Dan Levy, start of the acclaimed sitcom Schitt’s Creek (and son of Eugene Levy), with musical guest Phoebe Bridgers.
This marks a first for both Levy and Bridgers, the latter continuing her momentous rise after a 2020 that saw her release one of the year’s best albums, Punisher, eventually picking up a handful of GRAMMY nominations in the process.
Jan. 30 will be hosted by John Krasinski and feature musical guest Machine Gun Kelly, while Feb. 13 will be hosted by Regina King and feature musical guest Nathaniel Rateliff.

What’s interesting about the Levy/Bridgers episode is both are responsible for many people’s COVID-19 quarantine entertainment. It was pretty much impossible to spend time on social media for much of 2020 without seeing GIFs or references to Schitt’s Creek, for example, while the discourse surrounding Bridgers, her Punisher album and biting social media presence kept her in the conversation as her profile rose.

In a sense, Dan Levy and Phoebe Bridgers helped many people get through the doldrums of this difficult past year — or at least find ways to entertain themselves while stuck at home — so it’s seems appropriate to have the pair on the same Saturday Night Live episode.
