It’s that time of year again — a day, April 8, set aside to come together as a people and celebrate that time-honored tradition … that’s right, it’s Rex Manning Day.

For those uninitiated, Rex Manning Day is a reference to the 1995 film Empire Records, a film starring Liv Tyler, Renee Zellweger, Ethan Embry, Robin Tunney and a host of other actors and about a record store and the (very ’90s-styled) employees that work there, and how they have to come together to save their beloved music shop from closing at the hands of ruthless developers.

It’s a big day at the store. Rex Manning, international pop star and unabashed cheesy entertainer with a great head of hair and a sultry style (played by Maxwell Caulfield) is coming to the store for a meet-and-greet.

It’s cause for celebration, until he proves himself to be a massive jerk. But enough negativity. It’s REX MANNING DAY.

Actor Ethan Embry, who portrays Marc — the Empire Records employee especially stoked on the whole Rex Manning Day festivities, has been tweeting about the big event all day:

While also shouting out his character, Marc:

And encouraging some bands from the Empire Records soundtrack to lend a hand in celebrating the big day.

If you want to take part in the fun at home, follow Embry’s tweets above and partake in the Twitter conversation this afternoon. Or, if you’re not the Tweeting type, find out where to stream Empire Records and revisit the iconic ’90s film — or experience it for the first time. Your call!
