When we first heard from Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum, the experimental/indie project featuring actor Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under), Peter Yanowitz (The Wallflowers) and Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie, Cyndi Lauper), it was in the form of this provocative music video for a track called “Ketamine”:
Today, April 2, the group releases its debut EP, a six-song, 20-minute affair that challenges what you might be expecting to hear when you decide to give it a listen.
More than just “a band starring an actor,” Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum is an eclectic, inspired effort from the trio.
Hall, Yanowitz and Katz-Bohen first met while working on the Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch — context that makes sense given the various styles and irreverence on display with this EP.
“We all bring something unique to the project,” said Hall in a statement. “We’re a three-legged stool; we couldn’t stand up without all of us working together. The first time we played together was a magical moment.”
The result is a little bit Bowie, a little bit Radiohead and a lot of unpredictability.
