Drive Under the Influence in Canada and You Might Be Punished With … Nickelback?
A story going viral this week stemming from a (now deleted) post on Facebook by the Kensington Police Service in Canada’s Prince Edward Island concerns a pretty serious threat of punishment for would-be drunk drivers: being forced to listen to Nickelback‘s Silver Side Up album.
Nickelback, of course, is a Canadian alt/rock/pop band that launched to fame (infamy?) in the late 1990s and early 2000s on the strength of singles such as “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph,” “Rock Star” and other songs that everybody heard all the time everywhere.
The Facebook post may have since been deleted by the Kensington Police Service, but thanks to the Internet you can see the image they had posted up above, as well as the copy of their warning:
“…The Kensington Police Service will be out for the remainder of year looking for those dumb enough to feel they can drink and drive. And when we catch you, and we will catch you, on top of a hefty fine, a criminal charge and a year’s driving suspension, we will also provide you with a bonus gift of playing the office’s copy of Nickelback in the cruiser on the way to jail.”
Along with this:
“Now, now, no need to thank us, we figure if you are foolish enough to get behind the wheel after drinking then a little Chad Kroeger and the boys is the perfect gift for you. So please, let’s not ruin a perfectly good unopened copy of Nickelback. You don’t drink and drive and we won’t make you listen to it.”
Nickelback’s Twitter account, which can fire back against criticism with some good-natured comebacks every now and then, has yet to comment on this “situation,” but stay tuned …
