Emo/punk band My Chemical Romance hasn’t been “a thing” since 2013, when its members went separate ways. But a recent social media tease this week was building to something and sending the internet into a frenzy.

On Thursday, it was revealed that MCR will reconvene to play a show at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 20:

This is a big deal for fans of the rock/indie/emo scene, as My Chemical Romance was a breakout band that achieved momentous success in the early-to-mid 2000s on the strength of 2004’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and its follow-up, the dark 2006 concept record The Black Parade.

My Chemical Romance’s appeal lied in the dynamism of front man Gerard Way, his passionate vocals and the band’s genre-bending style, which combined rock, emo, punk, and, at times, metal-tinged guitars.

The AXS ticket link for the reunion show lists tickets at $149.50, and they’ll go on sale Friday, Nov. 1.

It remains to be seen if this will indeed be a one-off reunion concert event, or of My Chemical Romance have more in store .. but after such a significant wait (and incessant online rumors about a reunion), one has to imagine the band might do more than just one show …
