The Golden Casket is the new studio album from Modest Mouse, the long-running indie/rock band‘s new album and first since 2015.

At its essence is a core theme of ruminating on existence and the human condition, perhaps best summed up by this line in “We’re Lucky”:

It takes a lifetime to ever figure out that there
There ain’t no lifetime that’s ever figured out

The album was released today, June 25.

“We Are Between,” the record’s lead single, has been charting on rock music playlists since its debut a while back:

Here’s Modest Mouse — led by vocalist/guitarist Isaac Brock — performing the song on Fallon earlier this week:

Always unpredictable and always engagingly offbeat, Modest Mouse has crafted an intriguing collection of songs with The Golden Casket, more than making up for the six-year wait between records.
