Mitski Re-Emerges with “Working for the Knife” Song/Video, Details U.S. Theater Tour for the Spring

Singer/songwriter Mitski returned on Tuesday with “Working for the Knife,” a brand new song that marks her first release in a few years.

The very artistically rendered video works more as a short film, really, Mitski taking center stage … figuratively at first, and literally toward the end of the clip. It’s pretty powerful, and the synth-bathed song’s electronica vibe creates quite a stark listening and viewing experience:

“It’s about going from being a kid with a dream, to a grown up with a job, and feeling that somewhere along the way you got left behind,” explained Mitski of the song and video in a statement. “It’s being confronted with a world that doesn’t seem to recognize your humanity, and seeing no way out of it.”

There was no formal album announcement yet, but whenever it comes out it will be the follow-up to 2018’s acclaimed Be the Cowboy.

This spring, Mitski will embark on a theater tour of North America before heading overseas in the early summer. The dates, with tickets set to go on sale this Friday, Oct. 8:
