This past weekend brought the news that country/folk legend John Prine was in critical condition in the hospital after displaying symptoms of COVID-19, a development that came after his wife, Fiona Whelan Prine, tested positive for coronavirus herself.

In an update on Monday, Fiona stated on her Twitter page that she has since recovered from the illness and that her husband is currently stable — which is definitely better news than the previous update:

News of John Prine and his hospitalization prompted an outpouring of support and well-wishes from the music community, and inspired fellow folk icon Joan Baez to dedicate an acoustic performance to both John and Fiona on Sunday:

The original update from the John Prine family was that the musician, 73, had been hospitalized on Thursday after the sudden onset of symptoms:

After a sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms, John was hospitalized on Thursday (3/26). He was intubated Saturday evening, and continues to receive care, but his situation is critical.

This is hard news for us to share. But so many of you have loved and supported John over the years, we wanted to let you know, and give you the chance to send on more of that love and support now. And know that we love you, and John loves you.

Continued best wishes to John, Fiona and anybody dealing with COVID-19 at this time.
