It’s a big year for Michelle Zauner. The singer/songwriter behind Japanese Breakfast is a New York Times Bestseller with her new memoir, Crying in H Mart, and today, June 4, she releases a new album titled Jubilee.

Previewed in recent weeks with a handful of stylish music videos and engaging indie/pop from Zauner, Jubilee comes with significant anticipation — and it delivers on nearly all counts, finding Japanese Breakfast at its most engaging.

Her third album to date, Jubilee draws its name from Zauner’s concerted focus toward celebrating “the passage of time,” contrasting with her earlier records that focused on grief and existentialism, based on large part on her mother’s fight with cancer (and, later, her passing).

“Now, at the start of a new decade, Japanese Breakfast is ready to fight for happiness, an all-too-scarce resource in our seemingly crumbling world,” reads a press release, and such themes are at play throughout the record.

“Be Sweet” was the first song shared from the album, a loving ’80s-styled synth-pop gem with a music video tribute to the X-Files:

Jubilee is going to be among the indie rock community’s biggest releases of the year, and it’s definitely going to earn Zauner acclaim and additional attention — which is also playing out in the form of a Fall tour that is selling out in many markets:
