James Taylor is an American standard — he just so happened to release a great new album under that title, too — so it’s of little surprise that the legendary singer/songwriter will serve a key role in the upcoming season of The Voice.

Per a report from Billboard on Monday, James Taylor will be the ‘mega mentor’ for the upcoming 18th season of the smash-hit music competition show, which will begin next week:

Taylor will join the coaches to mentor the artists remaining from the Battle Rounds, and prepare each team for the Knockout Rounds, which will begin on Monday (April 13) at 8 p.m. EST/PST.

More, via Billboard’s report:

Additionally, Taylor will help coach and rehearse with the four artists that were saved by their individual coaches during the Battle Rounds for the first-ever Four-Way Knockout. Only one winner on each team will advance, chosen by America’s votes and revealed at the beginning of the first live show.

The announcement was made via a funny video featuring The Voice judges John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas and Adam Levine:

American Standard, the new studio album from James Taylor, was released on February 28 and finds him re-imagining iconic songs from throughout music history, as curated by Taylor himself.
