The Annual Christmas Without Tears Variety Charity celebrates its 15th year in 2020, but like everything else upended by the COVID-19 pandemic and the unprecedented difficulties presented by it this past year, Harry Shearer and Judith Owen had to alter their show … to this year’s fundraiser is a virtual event.

A Very Virtual Christmas Without Tears is set for this Friday, Dec. 11, via Nugs.net and features a host of participating performers and entertainers committed to the causes. As the event’s Nugs.net page details:

What began as a humble holiday house party to chase away Judith’s yuletide blues became a charity event and performance in 2005 when they staged it to aid the people of New Orleans after Katrina. This year’s event is benefiting the US and UK music communities that have been devastated due to the cancelation of live shows and the closure of venues.

“It may be Christmas in lockdown but this year’s CWT benefit promises to be every bit the reverent/irreverent home party it’s famous for… the perfect antidote to strange times, whilst helping our music community. A veritable festoon of stars and homegrown talent alike. Now all we need is YOU!” – Judith Owen & Harry Shearer

The list of acts taking part in this year’s show is pretty deep. The newly-announced names include:

Catherine O’Hara, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Doña Oxford, Mario Cantone, Jeffrey Young, Godfrey Daniels, The SongBirds (Gaby Moreno, Erica Canales and Dannielle DeAndrea), Classical Kicks (Lizzie Ball, Meghan Cassidy, Gabriella Swallow), and a special tribute To Fred Willard.

That mix joins the following previously announced participants:

Julia Fordham, Steve Lukather (featuring Ringo Starr), Topsy Chapman & Solid Harmony, Jeff Goldblum , The Stanton Moore Trio, Howard Levy, Trixie Minx, Paranormal phenomenon Clinton Baptiste, Paul Shaffer, Amy Engelhardt (the Bobs), David Blenkhorn, Miss Hope Springs, Davell Crawford, Evan Christopher & David Torkanowsky, The Orion Orchestra, Donald Fagen, Bryan Batt, John Goodman, Chris Difford, Kermit Ruffins, Tommy Foster with Scott Nesbit, Phil DeGruy, Leland Sklar, and house band: CJ Vanston.
