Green Day posted a message on social media late Thursday night announcing that the band has decided to postpone upcoming tour dates in Asia due to concerns related to the coronavirus.

Here’s the band’s statement:

“We have unfortunately made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming shows in Asia due to the health + travel concerns with coronavirus. We know it sucks, as we were looking forward to seeing you all, but hold on to your tickets we’ll be announcing the new dates very soon.”

With such heightened discussion of the coronavirus, which is a global concern at the moment, this doesn’t come as that much of a surprise. Rolling Stone notes that Korean pop band BTS also canceled planned shows in South Korea for the same reason.

Despite this tour setback, Green Day is still preparing to head out on the Hella Mega Tour this summer alongside Weezer and Fall Out Boy — but the growing fears of a coronavirus outbreak could surely motivate other bands and musical acts to think carefully about planned performances in countries where this is a bigger, more widespread concern than elsewhere.

Radio.com added that New Order — which just announced a big fall tour with Pet Shop Boys — also canceled upcoming shows, as has UK rapper Stormzy.

We’ll have to see what happens …
