Ginger Baker’s Family Updates His Health Status: He’s ‘Holding His Own’ in the Hospital

Last week, word came down that legendary rock and roll drummer Ginger Baker was gravely ill in a hospital and in need of prayers and well-wishes.
The original message, as shared on Baker’s social media channels:
Announcement. Ginger is critically ill in hospital. Please keep him in your prayers. Thank you everyone.
The Baker family are sad to announce that Ginger is critically ill in hospital. Please keep him in your prayers tonight

A few days later, Baker’s family and friends issued an update on his status — and it sounds a bit more positive in tone:
UPDATE! Ginger is holding his own & thank you for all your good wishes. He is receiving visits from close family & very special friends.

The Facebook version of the message above included a photo:
Baker, who just turned 80 years old on August 19, has had a number of health issues in recent years, including open heart surgery in 2016 that directly led to his retirement from live touring.
The NME noted that Baker revealed an ongoing battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic back pain due to osteoarthritis, as well.
Baker, of course, co-founded Cream with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce in 1966, moving on to Blind Faith alongside Clapton, Steve Winwood and Ric Grech, before decades of other projects and a solo career that firmly established him as one of the foremost drummers to ever pick up a pair of sticks.
A 2013 documentary titled Beware of Mr. Baker brought Ginger Baker’s wild presence and career to the world of cinema:

Continued best wishes to Ginger Baker!
