Some spectacles are almost too much to process. When groups of rock and roll legends gather together, for example, it can be an eye-popping scene — such as the Gibson Guitars party at the NAMM Show back in January, or rehearsals for a star-studded tribute to Peter Green and the early days of Fleetwood Mac.
The special event is taking place tonight, Feb. 25 at the London Palladium, and features participating acts including Mick Fleetwood, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, ZZ Top legend Billy F Gibbons and more. Here’s that array of musicians jamming in rehearsals, as captured by renowned photographer Ross Halfin and shared via Hammett on Instagram:
Also from Halfin, here’s Hammett and Steven Tyler:
This is the stuff memories are made of, right here — and, thankfully, even if you didn’t secure a ticket to the Peter Green tribute, worry not, as Rolling Stone also noted that the concert will be filmed and released at some point in a production directed by Martyn Atkins.
As for what the event is all about, it’s structured to pay tribute to the early days of Fleetwood Mac, as it sowed the seeds of what was to come years later.
The list of participating musicians that will be joining him on stage for this once-in-a-lifetime concert include David Gilmour, Billy Gibbons, Jonny Lang, John Mayall, Christine McVie, Steven Tyler, Bill Wyman and Zak Starkey, barring any additional announcements and/or surprises.
Said Mick Fleetwood in a statement, as passed along by Rolling Stone:
“The concert is a celebration of those early blues days where we all began, and it’s important to recognize the profound impact Peter and the early Fleetwood Mac had on the world of music,” Fleetwood said in a statement. “Peter was my greatest mentor and it gives me such joy to pay tribute to his incredible talent. I am honored to be sharing the stage with some of the many artists Peter has inspired over the years and who share my great respect for this remarkable musician.”
