Eric Clapton is nothing if not consistent these days.

The guitar icon surprise-released a new song on Aug. 27, and “This Has Gotta Stop” continues his recent string of high-profile expressions of discontent regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and government-issued health mandates. It’s already been the focus of new music from Clapton, who teamed up with pal (and ardent mandate critic) Van Morrison for one of Van Morrison’s “anti-lockdown songs” in late 2020.

As for Clapton’s new one, well, “This Has Gotta Stop” is a protest anthem, of sorts, for the anti-vaccine community, which continues to be in the news with the Delta variant keeping the pandemic very much a part of our lives.

Clapton went on record in May as attributing some “severe reactions which lasted ten days” to his receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, and some of that made its way into this new song’s lyrics:

“I knew that something was going on wrong
When you started laying down the law
I can’t move my hands, I break out in sweat
Iwanna cry, I can’t take it anymore

The chorus, meanwhile:
This has gotta stop
Enough is enough
I can’t take this BS any longer

Clapton’s official site details the song as being penned by him and produced by his longtime producing partner Simon Climie and is performed by Clapton, Sonny Emery on drums, Nathan East on bass, Sharon White on background vocals along with Nick Ingman as the strings arranger and conductor and Perry Montague-Mason as strings leader.
