This week, legendary guitarist Eric Clapton is performing some special shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and thanks to a fan with a great vantage point, there’s footage circulating of Ol’ Slowhand and his band paying tribute to the late Prince.
Below, watch Clapton and his backing musicians power through a great cover of “Purple Rain,” which was the last song of the encore on the night’s set list:
It’s worth noting that Clapton opened his set with a rendition of “Que Sera Sera,” in honor of iconic actress/entertainer/animal activist Doris Day, whose passing made headlines Monday morning.
Eric Clapton has a few upcoming shows in the United States in the fall, leading up to this year’s Crossroads Guitar Festival:
September 11 San Francisco, CA Chase Center
September 13 Las Vegas, NV T-Mobile Arena
September 14 Phoenix, AZ Talking Stick Resort Arena
From the news release:
Eric Clapton’s band for these shows will include Doyle Bramhall II, Paul Carrack, Nathan East, Steve Gadd, and Chris Stainton with Sharon White and Katie Kissoon on backing vocals.
