Much of the anticipation surrounding Rocketman, the upcoming biopic celebrating the life and legacy of Sir Elton John was heightened by the runaway success of 2018’s Queen and Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody — so how would star Taron Egerton do as Elton?
A new video clip from Rocket Man showed up this week that is our first extended glimpse of the actor doing his best to channel the iconic singer and his song “Rocket Man,” which of course is the overall theme song of the film. Watch the clip, which features Egerton in costume in various scenes from the film (at the Troubadour in West Hollywood and Dodger Stadium, replicating specific events from Elton’s career) below:
Egerton also performed the song with Elton himself at the singer’s Academy Awards party a few months back, which was a treat:
That clip served as the first official, live preview of what fans can expect from Egerton in the film — and now this extended clip/video seen above really ought to ramp up even more anticipation for the film. Additionally, Egerton’s rendition of “Rocket Man” serves as the lead single to the film’s official soundtrack album:
