Today, March 25, Reginald Kenneth Dwight — better known as Sir Elton John — is celebrating another trip around the sun — his 74th, in fact!

It’s time for a festive toast to the man whose music is cherished the world over, whose legacy spans generations and whose influence is both far-reaching and long-lasting.

Were it not for the COVID-19 pandemic, Sir Elton would have spent much of the past year or so on his marathon Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, and you know he’s just aching to get back out there with his piano and lead the masses in reverent, blissful singalongs of his classic catalog. (As of now, the North American dates postponed by the pandemic are on track for resumption in 2022, so here’s hoping that happens).

Elton’s kept himself in the headlines lately, too.

Earlier this week, he and husband David Furnish announced that their 29th annual Academy Awards Pre-Party benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation is happening, digitally, with special guests Neil Patrick Harris and Dua Lipa:

Back on March 14, he was in the news once again, for other reasons. Breakout singer/songwriter Phoebe Bridgers went home empty-handed at the Grammy Awards, which prompted a big question from the internet: Would Sir Elton have to hit somebody?

That Elton, always making himself heard and standing up for what he believes in. The man’s been an inspiration for decades and continues to be to this day — and he’s as much a fan of his catalog of music as everybody else, too!

Back in November, he released Jewel Box, a massive deep-dive collection through his copious recording vaults:

If you haven’t yet picked it up and consider yourself a fan, well … get on it!
