Over the weekend, the first tour date of KISS‘ ongoing End of the World farewell tour featuring iconic Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth took place in Manchester, New Hampshire.

When the news of Diamond Dave being added to the festivities for the final leg of KISS’ big tour, it raised some questions. First, how would he sound? Roth started a residency of solo gigs in Las Vegas in January, so his voice would presumably be up to the task of the requisite Van Halen classics, right?

So far, so good, at least from some fan-filmed footage of the Friday night’s DLR + KISS concert at SNHU Arena. Here’s Dave and his backing band playing “Panama”:

News of David Lee Roth’s Vegas residency and slate of gigs with KISS added more fuel to “is Van Halen truly finished?” fire, and his recent comments didn’t do much to inspire hope in the form of any further VH activities:

When the topic of Van Halen’s purported stadium tour that was potentially suggested for this past summer, Roth says, “That’s been canceled a number of times,” adding, “And I think Van Halen’s finished,” citing his solo Vegas residency as the next phase of the iconic rock band, which last toured together in 2015.

Roth also added, “Van Halen isn’t gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know. And that being said, Eddie’s got his own story to tell. [It’s} not mine to tell it.”

It’s anyone’s guess whether Roth will stick to the same set list as this first show with KISS, but here’s what he played … in case you’re curious:

“You Really Got Me”
“Just Like Paradise”
“Unchained”
“Jamie’s Cryin'”
“Panama”
“Dance the Night Away”
“Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love”
“Jump”

And here’s fan footage of DLR’s entire set:
