Out Now: Cold War Kids’ Inventive New Album ‘New Age Norms 1,’ the First in a Three-Album Series (Listen)

0

Since their emergence in the indie/rock scene, Long Beach, California rockers Cold War Kids have struck a chord, so to speak, with an inventive take on the genre.

So when the band announced a new album — sorry, a trilogy of new albums launching with the new set, New Age Norms 1 — it made a ton of sense, given their enduring desire to do things their own way.

The album was released on Nov. 1 and was produced by Lars Stalfords, and previewed with the track “Complainer” — which is doing heavy duty on rock radio at the moment, both of conventional FM dial variety and on satellite radio stations.

Another single from the record, “4th of July,” was also premiered:

The band’s funk-tinged indie/pop/rock has always tapped into earnest emotions and lyrical themes, lead vocalist Nathan Willett leading the charge throughout — and that’s the case once again with New Age Norms 1, the band’s seventh full-length to date and, as mentioned earlier, the first in a three-part album series.
