More than a half a century since its original release, The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society album is lauded as a landmark moment in rock and roll history and is lauded as one of the group’s signature classics. Yet its worthy follow-up album, 1969’s Arthur (Or The Decline and Fall Of The British Empire) has wrongly failed to earn the same gushing accolades. Now that’s about to change, with a 50th anniversary 4-CD deluxe box culling 81 tracks, including a newly remastered version of the original album having been released in late October. In addition to the above,…

Since recording her first album in 1993, Garrison Starr has continued to blend folk-rock, Americana and singer-songwriter influences with incredible deftness and to compelling effect. On Garrison Starr’s forthcoming album, Girl I Used To Be, Starr stays unwaveringly true to the emotional landscape she has explored throughout her career, confronting the most confessional, introspective and vulnerable aspects of herself and her experience. Starr’s recent live shows, launching her Patreon, and Girl I Used To Be, all find Starr reclaiming space as a solo artist, after spending the last few years focusing on interesting collaborations and varied side projects while writing…

You know how you can tell when big-name musicians are having all the fun in the world with a new project? That’s very much the case with Simple Creatures, the two-man indie/synth-pop band started by Blink-182 bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus and Alex Gaskarth, front man/songwriter for All Time Low. The duo played a show at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood on Tuesday night, and it clear within seconds of them hitting the stage that Hoppus, 47, and Gaskarth, 31, are fully committed. Truly keeping this a two-man project, there was no drum kit on stage. Playing to a drum machine, Hoppus…

Fear Inoculum, the first album from prog/metal masters Tool since 2006, is a challenging record. The song lengths stretch into double-digits on nearly every track, which automatically requires significant attention from the listener. The album, released on Aug. 30 to heightened anticipation, is also a masterful piece of enigmatic art from an ensemble of musicians known for precisely that. And in keeping with the plot, Tool released the album in a limited-edition CD format with built-in speakers and an audio/visual presentation that ran for roughly $70 online and was made available in limited quantities. https://open.spotify.com/album/7acEciVtnuTzmwKptkjth5?si=riMhp5r5Q3ib9rzTkB3h7A On Dec. 13, the album…

No matter your opinion on the Foo Fighters, you can’t deny the tireless work ethic of Dave Grohl. Ever since forming the band in the wake of Nirvana’s end in 1994, the man has seemingly joined a new musical project every three minutes.
