Russian nesting dolls, bears wearing hooded sweatshirts – these are two things featured heavily in Regina Spektor’s eye-opening new music video for Small Bill$, one of the most infectious songs on her fantastic new album, Remember Us to Life (which was released last week). The next time you’re at one of those parties where a trivia game breaks out and the question gets asked, “Who was the last person to open a show for the late, great B.B. King,” you can go ahead and smirk knowingly as you boldly and confidently answer that it was Hamish Anderson, a then-23-year-old from Melbourne, Australia. Anderson left his home Down Under in the spring of 2014 in favor of America; the music that he connects with—blues and rock—is from here. By year’s end he’d opened for King, one of Anderson’s own heroes, and he’d been heralded by…

Sum 41 front man/songwriter Deryck Whibley has had a long road to where he is today: releasing a new album, 13 Voices, the first record from the alt/punk band since 2011’s Screaming Bloody Murder. A loud, aggressive, in-your-face collection of songs with titles heavily leaning on themes of death, 13 Voices is a strong return to form for the band, which welcomed longtime guitarist Dave Baksh back into the mix for the new material. Whibley, who dealt with battles with alcoholism that nearly claimed his life in recent years, has been to the edge and back, and the music on…

From opener Somewhere Now to the infectious Say Goodbye, this is the band at its very best, and this new record should definitely appeal to everybody that might not have enjoyed the Uno, Dos and Tre! three-album trilogy…
