Among heavy metal legends, few possess a primal howl as piercing and iconic as Rob Halford. And this holiday season, the Judas Priest vocalist will lend his efforts to a new solo record of holiday music, titled Celestial. This sounds like the must-have heavy metal holiday album of the year, honestly. Maybe ever? That’s hard to say, but maybe. Halford’s an icon. The album will be unleashed on October 18, and finds Halford and his pals mixing holiday standards with new, original compositions. His backing band for this record is none other than his fmaly and friends, specifically his brother (Nigel)…

Iggy Pop wants to be Free — that’s the sentiment the punk legend expresses on its opening title track of his new album, released on Friday. But don’t expect anything close to “punk” in the traditional sense of the word, even from someone like Pop, the embodiment of the punk ethos for decades. This album is weird. Mellow, introspective and filled with nearly spoken-word tracks of Pop’s voice accentuating songs written in the indie/rock vein, it’s definitely something new for him, even after the provocative departure of 2016’s Post Pop Depression. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nlMnNw2PJg This LP was previewed in recent weeks with…

The legendary and lovely Judy Collins is preparing a new album for release, and on Nov. 15 Winter Stories will be out. A collaborative project with Norwegian folk artist Jonas Fjeld and the bluegrass band Chatham County Line, Winter Stories sounds tailor-made for the holiday season. As you might suspect given Collins’ rich history with folk music and Fjeld’s own experience as a songwriter/musician, this all came together very organically: In February 2019, Judy, Jonas, and Chatham County Line headed down to vibey Echo Mountain Studios — a former church — in Ashville, North Carolina. The three knew each other tangentially, but…
