On Sunday night, indie king Sufjan Stevens and his nine-piece band of neon-clad backing musicians/dancers took the stage at the Hollywood Bowl to demonstrate just how he’s become one of the scene’s most revered and enigmatic artists over the years. Long-running pop/punk/alt band Good Charlotte recently returned with a crowd-pleasing new album, Youth Authority, and this fall they’ll embark on a headlining tour in support of it. Along for the ride will be special guests the Story So Far, with Set Your Goals, Four Year Strong and Big Jesus along for the fun at select shows. This should be a warm, nostalgic night of music for fans of the band and the early 2000s pop/punk scene. For the first time in a decade, Grateful Dead legend Bob Weir will release an album of new material. Titled Blue Mountain, the collection will be come out on September 13 via Legcy Recordings. The press release cites Weir’s “earlier experiences working on a ranch in Wyoming as a teenager” as main inspiration for Blue Mountain, which features collaborations with Josh Ritter (songwriting), Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner (guitars) and Scott Devendorf (bass). On October 7, Sum 41 will return with a new album, 13 Voices. It’ll be the long-running Canadian pop/punk/alt band’s sixth full-length album and first since 2011’s Screaming Bloody Murder. In addition, it’s also the first Sum 41 to feature guitarist Dave Baksh since 2004’s Chuck. This past weekend, the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival took place at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Warpaint, the Los Angeles-based indie/rock/pop band whose 2014 self-titled album made waves around the music scene, will return on September 23 with a new record. This month, KCSN 88.5’s Jim Nelson spotlights Catfish and the Bottlemen for our Turn Me On category… Somewhere in Sydney, Australia, there’s a busker who directly impacted the name of a rock band from a small Welsh seaside resort town.
