Dirty Heads rose to prominence thanks to a hybrid of styles that saw reggae, rock and acoustic/folk thrown together, with occasional hip-hop forays thrown into the mix. The band’s new album Super Moon, though, is a distinctly different experience. Released on Friday, the album, which was recorded in Nashville and produced by Dave Cobb, is versatile. Cobb, a four-time Grammy winner with country artists including Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile and the A Star Is Born soundtrack, seems an odd choice to produce a record for a band known for reggae/rock crossovers like “Lay Me Down,” but…

When you first hear it, the pairing sounds odd. Blink-182, the veteran alt/punks known for sophomoric humor and their late ’90s-early 2000s brand of catchy pop/punk and iconic rapper Lil Wayne, on tour together? In 2019? The tour’s been going on for a few weeks now, and it rolled into Los Angeles on Thursday night for what actually turned out to be a pretty excellent time. This was a bit of a surprise to this reviewer, having heard early reports from the tour of Wayne ending his set early and/or seeming to have issues with crowd reception. Perhaps because this…

Nestled in the greenery of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival always has a different feel to it from other major U.S. music festivals. For one, the ubiquitous fog and cold temperatures in San Francisco give the fest a unique vibe from the get-go, and this weekend it will make history as the first major U.S. festival to offer on-site cannabis sales and consumption. This isn’t entirely surprising given its location in progressive San Francisco, but it is rather interesting. In recent years, Outside Lands — which this year features an eclectic lineup…

Oasis may be a defunct band, its perennially sparring co-vocalists/embittered brothers Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher forging ahead with solo careers of their own, but the legacy the Britpop band left behind can’t be denied. 1994’s Definitely Maybe is one of the most successful albums in history, and was the fastest-selling debut album in the UK upon its release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFU3ZK9q06s That record is now 25 years old — or, it will turn 25 on August 29, the 25th anniversary of its original release. A day later, on August 30, a special 25th anniversary edition of the album will be released.…

13 years is a long time in the objective sense, but when you’re talking about years between new music released by a band, that’s an intense span of time. For Tool, that’s how long it’s been since 2006’s 10,000 Days album, but the band is back, officially … finally. On Wednesday, the mercurial metal/progressive band fronted by Maynard James Keenan premiered the title track off its new album, Fear Inoculum, which will be out on August 30. In typical Tool fashion, the track leaves nothing behind: it spans 10 minutes and 22 seconds, is intensely atmospheric and features some captivating…
