Stream ‘Jaime,’ the Deeply Personal New Solo Album from Alabama Shakes Singer/Guitarist Brittany Howard

Today, Sept. 20, Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes has begun a new chapter in her career: Solo artist.

Howard’s debut solo album, Jaime, was released today via ATO Records, and is a deeply personal and reflective collection of songs from Howard.

Back when she announced the album, Howard issued a detailed statement explaining its origins:

Noting that Jaime is named after her sister, who died when the two were teenagers.

“The title is in memoriam, and she definitely did shape me as a human being. But, the record is not about her. It’s about me. I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own.”

The result is a deeply personal exploration of expression through music as only Howard — who’s racked up four Grammy Awards with Alabama Shakes for their 2016 album Sound & Color — could tell it.
