When it comes to contemporary music festivals, the question “where are the rock bands??” can come up regarding headliners, particularly if a given lineup is heavy on pop/dance acts. The answer to the question, apparently, is Boston Calling, which revealed its lineup on Tuesday.
Set for May 22-24 at Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston, MA, this year’s Boston Calling, the eleventh since the festival debuted in 2013, will be headlined by Foo Fighters, a reunited Rage Against the Machine and the Red Hot Chili Peppers (with guitarist John Frusciante, making one of his first appearances since rejoining the band in December).
Other acts on the loaded bill include, as broken down by day:
Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit
Sharon Van Etten
Rage Against the Machine
Run the Jewels
Girl in Red
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Angels & Airwaves
and many more. Here’s the official lineup announcement video:
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are actually playing this festival AND BottleRock Napa Valley the same weekend, and the two performances will serve as some of the band’s first with Frusciante back in the mix for the first time since 2009.
Tickets, passes and more information are available at the official Boston Calling website.
