Bethel Woods’ 50th Anniversary of Woodstock Celebration Will Be Headlined by Ringo Starr and Santana

0

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary 1969 Woodstock concert in upstate New York — and, if you’ve been paying close attention to the news in recent weeks — you’ll remember there are two separate events planned for this summer to mark the occasion.

The Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival will take place from Aug. 15 to Aug. 18, and on Wednesday it was revealed that Ringo Starr and Santana will be leading the celebrations. While the original plans called for a three-day music festival on the grounds, Jambase reports that it has since been scaled back a tad, with three separate events scheduled instead of a massive festival.

Friday, Aug. 16’s entertainment will be provided by Ringo Starr and His All-Star Band, Arlo Guthrie and Edgar Winter with the Edgar Winter Band. The next night, Santana and the Doobie Brothers will take their summer tour to Bethel Woods for a co-headlining performance. The lineup and details for Sunday, Aug. 18 have yet to be announced.

Some additional programming information mentioned in the Jambase article:

Bethel Woods will extend its museum hours and screen Woodstock: The Directors Cut on the field where the original festival took place as part of the venue’s “Anniversary Week,” which spans August 15 – 18.

There is also a second event being put on by Michael Lang, co-creator of the original Woodstock concert in ’69, which will take place this same weekend (Aug. 16 – 18) in nearby Watkins Glen, New York. Lineup and full details for that event are still forthcoming, though Rolling Stone dropped this intriguing note that the event ” … will announce its lineup when tickets go on sale later this month, although the organizer said 40 bands, including big-name headliners, have already been booked.”

Stay tuned …
