All you need is Love rang true Thursday night, July 14 at the Mirage hotel and Casino in Las Vegas Nevada, as Cirque du Soleil celebrated the 10th anniversary of the monumentally successful Beatles LOVE show.
The performance, which still attracts record crowds, drew a very good response and a standing ovation from the crowd — which was delighted to be treated to live appearances from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
The mere appearance of the remaining two Beatles sent a wave of excitement throughout the crowd, charming everyone and transporting folks back to the ’60s.
In addition to that, the night also featured a moving speech by Giles Martin about his father, the late Sir George Martin. He spoke of both John Lennon and George Harrison, through which, he said, the Beatles’ message still goes on.
The red carpet, naturally, drew many interesting celebrities including Joe Walsh — who also attended Starr’s birthday celebration a few weeks back at the Capitol Records building in Hollywood, as well as Ron Howard, Peter Asher and Yoko Ono.
The crowd outside was overjoyed at the sight of the two remaining Beatles. Missing from the red carpet but attending the celebration inside were Olivia Harrison and son Dhani.
Thursday’s gala for LOVE took place the night after the Beatles’ family and close friends had dinner at the Mirage. From all accounts, it all resembled a family reunion, and a splendid time was had by all.
