Barenaked Ladies returned on Monday with their first new music in four years, a song called “Flip.” It’s a preview of the long-running Canadian group‘s new album, Detour de Force.

Accompanying the song premiere is a new animated music video, which can be seen below:

Barenaked Ladies will perform “Flip” on Friday, April 16 on The Today Show, ahead of a global streaming event titled Flip n’ Hits with BNL: A Night of Monster Jams of Pandemic Proportions, which will air on Saturday, April 17 at 9pm EDT / 6pm PDT with an encore on Sunday, April 18 at 8pm GMT. The 60-minute show will feature the band performing its greatest hits, in addition to “Flip.”

More on the live stream:

For Flip n’ Hits with BNL, the band returned to the historic Danforth Music Hall in Toronto for the first time in 30 years. The concert will stream at posted show times and will not be available to view after the event. Hosted by SESSIONS, tickets start at $15 USD and ticket bundles with exclusive commemorative merchandise are available to purchase HERE.

Said vocalist/guitarist Ed Robertson of “Flip,” per a news release:

’Flip’ is about being open to other perspectives. We live in a time where people seem to just dig deeper into their own trenches, without any willingness to see another viewpoint, or even engage in discussion… It’s all yelling, and no listening. I like that saying, ‘We were given one mouth, and two ears, and we’re supposed to use them proportionately!’”

The band is also rescheduling its Last Summer on Earth Tour to 2022. The trek was supposed to happen in Summer 2020, but of course that didn’t happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here’s a statement from the band to that effect:
