Over the years, signer/songwriter/storyteller Andrew McMahon has carved his own spot in the music scene, showcasing resilience and versatility throughout. From his early days in the pop-punk outfit Something Corporate to his more introspective Jack’s Mannequin and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness projects, each has afforded him the opportunity to branch out in new ways, all the while remaining an earnest creative mind.

He’s also channeled his own life experiences in his music — experiences such as a fight with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2005, which carried over to his music in the years since, McMahon exorcising the complex emotions that were part of it.

This fall, McMahon will embark on the Three Pianos Tour, an outing linked with the Oct. 26 publishing of his memoir, Three Pianos. Tickets will go on sale starting Friday, June 18 at

Per a news release:

Three Pianos takes readers through McMahon’s quintessentially American story of realizing his dreams, set against the backdrop of life’s darkest challenges. From a childhood defined by his father’s struggle with addiction to his very public battle with leukemia in 2005 at the age of twenty-three — as chronicled in the intensely personal documentary Dear Jack — Andrew McMahon’s Three Pianos is an ode to life, love and music.

The tour promises to be a special night for fans of McMahon’s career over the years — and he’s particularly excited about it:

“Never have I been more excited to announce a tour,” he said in a statement. “The weirdness we are emerging from has left its mark on all of us and I have been dreaming of the day we could gather in rooms again and shake off its effects together. I will be traveling light this time, surrounded by a small group of friends, performing a set of songs that for me are like mile markers on the map of my life. I spent my time away from the world writing a book, trying to understand more fully who I am and where I came from. I can think of no better time than now, the anniversary of 20 years on tour, to assemble my work on a stage and do what I can to share that history with you through my songs and stories. Like my book, this tour will be called Three Pianos, and while I can’t bring all three of them on the road with me, I hope to channel the wonderful and bizarre affection I have for their place in my world. Any time I embark on some new and public adventure I am filled with fear of the unknown, but if I have learned anything from tours like The Pen and the Piano, from first leaps onto rubber ducks or out on to dance floors beneath parachutes, it is worth taking chances. I am crafting this show with the knowledge it may be the first many of you have attended in a very long time. That comes with pressure, but from that pressure I hope to make something cathartic and worthy of your trust in me. The lights are coming back on, let’s sing together beneath them.”
