Out and about in Hollywood, few buildings are as beloved by so many as Amoeba Records — and the heralded independent music store has officially announced plans to move.

But don’t worry, Angelenos, tourists and out-of-towners who make regular visits to thumb through the vinyl racks or peruse old, dusty DVDs. Amoeba isn’t leaving town. It’s just moving down the street.

In a video shared to social media channels on Wednesday starring Tyler, the Creator, Amoeba revealed the news that it’s moving to 6200 Hollywood Boulevard, a few blocks closer to the Fonda Theatre and Hollywood Palladium.

News of Amoeba Hollywood’s current location, where it’s been since opening in 2001, being set for demolition came a few years back and sent locals into a panic — and Amoeba definitely felt the love of its legions of supporters, even as its future remained murky, at least officially:

We are humbled by the massive outpouring of support throughout this search from our customers and the LA community. We aim to do you proud and continue on as your supreme source for music, movies, and so much more. We will bring that familiar Amoeba energy into this new space and you can be sure it will provide the “true Amoeba experience” as we will carry the same breadth and depth of selection. We look forward to seeing you at our new home on the corner of Hollywood & Argyle this Fall, and have provided more details for you below. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.

Amoeba’s website notes that the new facility is eyeing an opening date of ‘sometime after Labor Day 2020,’ and that the new building will be a bit smaller than the other one, but not by much.

This is all great news for fans of independent music stores, which are obviously more of a relic of the past than anything that is built to thrive in today’s streaming-heavy music climate.

Best wishes to Amoeba as it finalizes the big move down the street! Be sure to pay a visit when you’re in town.
