Rockers Remember Music Gear Manufacturer and Industry Legend Jim Dunlop

On Thursday, news came down that Jim Dunlop, founder of Dunlop Manufacturing and principal figure since the company’s origination in 1965, has passed away. Those in the music business know all about Dunlop’s company, one of the foremost manufacturers of guitar picks used by many of the world’s top musicians.

The company, based out of the Northern California city of Benecia, is also known for various types of effects pedals (such as the wah-wah), among other forms of music gear that helped Dunlop amass the empire his company had over the years.

With that context, then, it’s no wonder a number of star musicians weighed in on Dunlop’s passing, sharing their condolences and thanking him for his creative vision.

Among them, Joe Satriani:

Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett:

Joe Bonamassa:

Buddy Guy:

and more.

A heartfelt remembrance piece went up on the company’s official site:

It would be difficult to find a guitar player who hasn’t been affected by Jim’s thoughtful innovations. Ever attentive to their needs, Jim will live on in the many products that he created to provide people with a better playing experience.

Jim was widowed by Bernice, in 2001 and is survived by Linda, wife of 7 years; daughter Jasmin Powell, married to Glenn; son Jimmy Dunlop, married to Elizabeth; and grandchildren Alyssa Powell, Krista Powell, and Max Dunlop.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MusiCares in Jim’s name.

It’s quite apparent Dunlop’s reach was massive, and he’ll definitely be missed.

May he rest in peace.
