They say that the movies and actors up for Golden Globe nominations could be on a path to recognition from the Academy once the Oscars roll around a few months later — and if that’s true again, it’s good news for Rami Malek and the filmmakers behind Bohemian Rhapsody.
On Thursday, the official nominees list was unveiled, and both the mega-successful Queen biopic (one of the best music biopics of all time, according to our Ed Rampell) and Malek (who stars as Freddie Mercury in the film) were up for big awards: Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, accordingly.
Those two categories:
Best Motion Picture – Drama
“If Beale Street Could Talk”
“A Star Is Born”
Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
Bradley Cooper (“A Star Is Born”)
Willem Dafoe (“At Eternity’s Gate”)
Lucas Hedges (“Boy Erased”)
Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”)
John David Washington (“BlacKkKlansman”)
