Buzz: Video of Mick Jagger Playing Harmonica Sparks Rumors of New Rolling Stones Music — Maybe

There are three absolutes in life: Death, taxes, and the Rolling Stones.

OK, that’s not how the phrase goes, but it applies anyway. For decades, the Stones have been a musical and cultural institution, and have showed no signs of slowing down in recent years, touring around the world again and again. And while their most recent album of original material came back in 2005 (A Bigger Bang), it appears they could be up to something again … maybe.

On Tuesday, Mick Jagger uploaded a video of himself playing harmonica in his living room (or somebody’s living room) alluding to “new tunes.”

Add that one to this, and you have a story:

Now, there’s no saying whether “new tunes” means new Stones music or, perhaps, another solo release from Mick. He did, after all, just release a pair of solo singles last summer. Two years ago, the Stones released Blue and Lonesome, a collection of blues standards — so their time in the studio together wasn’t too long ago …

Adding fuel to the fire of these rumors is this quote from the Rolling Stones’ manager, Joyce Smyth, when asked in a recent interview about the chances of a follow-up to Blue and Lonesome:

“They are certainly hoping to create some new music, maybe looking at some other genres. They’re creative people. They’re in a little bit of a holiday period at the minute, but they hope to be back in the studio soon, watch this space.”

Watch this space, indeed!
