The Guess Who will release a new record titled The Future IS What It Used To Be on September 14.
Accompanying founding drummer/vocalist Garry Peterson this time around are Derek Sharp (Lead Vocals, Guitar, Piano), Will Evankovich (Guitar, Harp, Vocals), Leonard Shaw (Keyboards, Flute, Sax, Vocals), and Rudy Sarzo (Bass, Vocals).
The first sample of new music from the band comes in the form of a music video for “Playin’ On the Radio,” a nostalgic, high-energy rocker:
In the studio, the band was joined by special guests including Tommy Shaw of Styx on guest vocals, Brent Fitz (Slash, Gene Simmons) on percussion, Guess Who founding bassist Jim Kale (bass) and Whitesnake’s Michael Devin (also on bass).
Over the years, the classic Canadian rock band made a strong impression on the masses, most notably during the era in which Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman took part — but they’re still giving it a go in 2018, as the video above proves.
Said Peterson of this new record:
“I never dreamed that I would get a chance to record an album, after 40 years, in the same way, and with the same recording gear that we used in the 60s and 70s. This was truly a blessing for me and a humbling, cathartic experience for my musical soul. Thank you to all my bandmates, and everyone who helped make it a reality. I hope our fans enjoy it as much as I do.”
