Happy 66th Birthday to Stewart Copeland of the Police!

Happy 66th Birthday to Stewart Copeland of the Police!

Today, it’s time to pick up a pair of drumsticks and get behind the kit in honor of Stewart Copeland — as the legendary drummer/songwriter/rock and roll icon celebrates his 66th birthday.

In fact, he’ll do so in grand fashion, as the premiere episode of his guest-hosting duties on HDNet Movies’ Classic Rock Week airs tonight. How better to celebrate your own birthday than by premiering a documentary on your band on a TV network?

Recently, we paid a visit to Copeland’s home studio in Southern California for RockCellarTV and spoke with him at length about Classic Rock Week, his favorite rock documentaries and much more:

Among the topics discussed are the same ones covered in the HDNET docu-series, from the Doors to the Who to Rush (note Copeland’s reverence for Rush’s Neil Peart) to the Police’s involvement with the US Festival in 1982, and more.

The 19-film line-up kicks off with the Copeland-directed film “Everyone Stares, The Police Inside Out” on his birthday, July 16, and also features critically acclaimed docs profiling The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers, The Doors, Elton John, Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, The Who, Bad Company, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Chicago, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Doobie Brothers, Rod Stewart, Les Paul and The 1982 US Festival.

In addition to his years drumming, Copeland is also an accomplished composer, something he spoke with us about in 2015 for an interview. Truly gifted with a personality as robust as his skills behind the drum set, Copeland is worthy of all accolades thrown at him.

Happy birthday, Stewart! And don’t forget to watch him on Classic Rock Week, all this week. on HDNet Movies.
