Paul Simon: ‘In the Blue Light’ Album with Re-Worked Versions of His Favorite Songs Coming in September

Paul Simon is enjoying a victory lap at the end of his iconic and massively influential touring career, as he’s out on the Homeward Bound: The Farewell Tour, which will wrap up on September 22 in New York.

Two weeks before that sure-to-be epic final concert, Simon will release In the Blue Light, a special album that finds him revisiting some of his favorite songs from his back catalog.

“This album consists of songs that I thought were almost right, or were odd enough to be overlooked the first time around,” he said in a statement. “Re-doing arrangements, harmonic structures, and lyrics that didn’t make their meaning clear, gave me time to clarify in my own head what I wanted to say, or realize what I was thinking and make it more easily understood.”

This will be Simon’s 14th solo studio album, following 2016’s Stranger to Stranger.

For this project, Simon selected songs originally appearing on his albums There Goes Rhymin’ Simon (1973), Still Crazy After All These Years (1975), One-Trick Pony (1980), Hearts and Bones (1983), The Rhythm of The Saints(1990), You’re The One (2000) and So Beautiful Or So What (2011), and he worked with some special guests for the new versions.
