Beloved singer/songwriter Paul Simon is out on the road for one final time on his Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour, and on Wednesday he announced plans for the very final concert on the schedule.
Set for September 22 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York, the special gig will serve as the send-off to Simon’s legendary career as a touring act. It’ll come after a couple of shows at Madison Square Garden, as well.
“It seems more like fate than coincidence that I should do the final show on this final tour at Flushing Meadows Corona Park,” Simon said. “I could have ridden my bike from home to the park in about 20 minutes, when I was a kid. But this is less a goodbye than a farewell. Thank you all for the ride, I had a great time.”
The news of the show also comes with this intriguing bit of details:
Simon and his band will bring to the stage a stunning, career-spanning repertoire of timeless hits and classics, as well as a unique selection of songs the artist has selected for this once-in-a-lifetime show.
Might that entail an onstage pairing with longtime collaborator and musical partner Art Garfunkel for this final send-off? That’d truly be special, if so.
Tickets for the Queens show will go on sale June 29.
