Back in early May, singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur and Peter Buck, longtime guitarist of R.E.M., announced a new project titled Arthur Buck.
Today, the duo’s debut full-length album is out, via New West Records. Featuring songs largely written in a short period of time by the pair, Arthur Buck is a pretty solid “stream of consciousness”-type project from the two musicians.
Arthur Buck was formed after an encounter between the two musicians toward the end of 2017 in Mexico. Together, they slammed out eight songs in just three days and, as the saying goes, everything else was history.
Recalls Arthur: “My first thought was, ‘Hey, I’ll get Peter to play acoustic guitar on some of the stuff I’m working on!’ So I started showing him songs. But he was like, ‘That’s cool. Now check this out.’ And he started playing chords and whatnot. So I put my guitar down and began singing over his changes, and it was magical. It was easy. And these great songs just started popping out.”
They’ve formed a relationship over the years due to Arthur opening for R.E.M. many times, and Buck has accompanied Arthur at his solo shows as well.
