Ann Wilson of Heart is pretty busy these days. In addition to releasing an EP of solo material in 2015, she’s about to head out on the road with Jeff Beck and Paul Rodgers this summer on an exciting North American tour.
She’s also working on a full-length studio album tentatively titled Songs For the Living Vol. 1, which will be her debut album with BMG and found Wilson working in the studio with longtime Heart producer Mike Flicker.
The music on the new record is said to pay tribute to some of the gifted musicians we’ve lost in recent years. Said Wilson:
“It’s a project very dear to me–a collection of songs by artists who have departed in the last several years including Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Tom Petty, Chris Cornell and Amy Winehouse to name a few. I feel these souls have made a real, lasting contribution to the art of the popular song and to honor them is my deepest pleasure.”
Wilson and Flicker are still at work recording the songs in Los Angeles at the moment, though three songs are confirmed to be finished and planned for the album thus far: Leslie Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me,” Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” and a recording of the Eagles’ “Life in the Fast Lane,” dedicated to the memory of Glenn Frey.
Wilson’s tour schedule, with more headlining dates expected to be announced for after the Stars Align tour with Beck and Rodgers this summer:
