Andrew W.K. Returns with the Jubilant, Life-Affirming and Relentlessly Upbeat ‘You’re Not Alone’ (New Music Friday)

12 years is a long time between albums, but that’s how long it took Andrew W.K. to release the follow-up to 2006’s Close Calls With Brick Walls.

The album, titled You’re Not Alone and featuring the album artwork above, is out today.

Rock Cellar recently chatted with W.K. about a number of topics, including the message behind You’re Not Alone:

There’s a certain feeling that I’m looking for in the world, in life, and it’s difficult to describe. I’d say it’s a confirmation of life’s value and beauty, felt on an all-encompassing level. It’s a physical understanding, it’s an emotional understanding that tells you in no uncertain terms that there is meaning in life — even if you don’t understand what that meaning is.

Listening to the album, a collection of undying positivity, pianos, guitar riffs, spoken-word passages and Meatloaf-esque bombast, he’s definitely carried out that message to great effect. This is a powerful, resonant listen — not unlike the sound explored on 2001’s I Get Wet and 2003’s The Wolf.

The entity of Andrew W.K. exists to inspire. For years, from the breakout success of “Party Hard” to his high-energy live shows, his music has found a way to tap into human consciousness in a way that’s allowed him to sustain interest in his career despite a lengthy drought of rock albums and years of experimentation (such as Japan-only releases and vague legal issues).

But he’s now he’s back, and You’re Not Alone proves that in a massive way. Stream the record below, via Spotify or Apple Music:
