The alt/emo scene of the early 2000s was marked by several heart-on-sleeve bands that achieved mainstream success thanks to their earnest music and raw passion — and one of those bands was Dashboard Confessional.

2001’s The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most put the band, fronted by singer/songwriter Chris Carraba, in the upper echelon of successful bands of the era. Today, the band returns with Crooked Shadows, the band’s seventh full-length album and the first since 2009’s After the Ending.

In the years between, the band continued touring, even co-headlining an outing with Third Eye Blind back in 2015.

Listening to the album, which blends Carraba’s signature acoustic singalongs with more higher-energy rockers, it’s a solid addition to their catalog thanks to songs like the single, “We Fight,” “Open My Eyes” (featuring Lindsey Stirling) as well as the emotional “Heart Beat Here,” among others.
