Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have a sound. When you hear a BRMC song, you know it’s them. From singer/guitarist Peter Hayes’ unmistakable voice to their groove-laden brand of dirty, dingy garage rock, there’s no confusion. It’s them.
Today, BRMC’s new studio album Wrong Creatures was released. The first new LP from the band since 2013’s Specter at the Feast, Wrong Creatures was led by a few pre-release singles, such as “Little Thing Gone Wild” and its straightforward music video:
Album opener “Spook” sets the mood effectively, swirling guitars and a propulsive rhythm setting the tone for what’s to come throughout the rest of the record. A shimmery disco beat drives “King of Bones” along, while “Haunt” and “Echo” exemplify the band’s ability to slow things down for purposes of slow-burning atmospherics.
Overall, Wrong Creatures is another stellar addition to BRMC’s catalog of albums, as they’ve really been a remarkably consistent band over the years. Grab the record (or load it on your phone), head out for a night drive, crank up the volume and let it envelop you. That’s how albums like this are meant to be heard.
